Electronic Shifting

Dura-Ace Di2Well, Shimano is finally releasing their electronic shifting components in January, 2009.

I'm not so sure I'd ever need this on a road bike, but the benefits would be huge for Cyclocross.  With no cables to get gummed up, and a smart(ish) rear derailleur that actually knows how far it's moved...That'd be huge!

hahahaa yeah but they did test it out in the spring classics. I'd hope it'd be weather proof. I guess they should show a demo with the whole system submerged in an aquarium at the upcoming bike show in Vegas. That would convince me.

I hope this doesnt catch on. I hate the fact that it threatens to render my entire fleet of bikes obsolete. I think that is also why people hate the Campy 11 speed.

I think you should buy three of these groupsets as soon as they're available. Buy an extra for your "mechanic" as compensation for installing them all.

I don't hate campy 11, especially for the obsolete factor. I'm even running 8spd on my cross bike this year. My beef is a possible weaker drivetrain for no real reason but "going to 11."

It might be worth the trouble trying to hack the derailleur firmware to move 4.8mm instead of 3.95mm ;)

This all started back in 2005 when Shimano applied to the patent office to extend the flight deck computer. They found that there was enough room in the memory to install more code for the electronic shifting, HRM and
a power meter. Funny thing is no mention of the power meter yet.they have also been working on a way to get around the license for the AHeadset headset

Jason, seeing how you're so important, I'm sure you've got several of these new kits laying around. Can I have one?

Sorry Erik,

My Shimano days have come to an end. In fact SRAM called me to work Cascade
I have to pay for this stuff just like the rest of you.

I would prefer wires, personally. Wireless is never 100% foolproof.
