Odd failure

So I was riding my 'cross bike up Kaiser road today, heading to Forest Park for a long overdue ride in the dirt.

As I was stomping up a hill, the rear wheel suddenly locked up. I looked down just in time to see my rear quick release skewer shoot out of my wheel and fly across the road.

I got safely off the road and took the rear wheel out to take a look. The hub was completely seized, and the cones on the right side were very hot to the touch, smelling of burnt machinery. Can't say I've ever seen that one before. What the?

My friend Karleta was kind enough to give me a ride home. Thanks, K-ster.

Was this the new bike, or the Voldnago? Bummer either way.

New bike, last year's wheels. 105 hub, FWIW. Now I'm notubes-less for a while.

right left...

come on man

drive non-drive side... sheesh

Did ya big fat ass bent the axle?

How the hell does a qr skewer go flying across the road?

Did you just overhaul the hub or has it been a few years?

pretty damn weird tho...

oh, right. Yeah, cones on the LEFT very hot.

I've no idea how one makes the skewer fly across the road. That's what's so weird. I just put on a new freehub body last week, I guess I did something horribly wrong.

The axle is straight but has an interesting shiny spot where I believe threads used to be!
