SSCXWC08 – A good show
I had kid duty today and couldn't race, so we all put on our rubber boots and came out to enjoy the show. And enjoy we did, with the drum corps pounding away, hundred of screaming fans, and some of the riders costumes.
We laughed and cheered for a neon pink spiderman, a cowboy riding a plastic horse/bike hybrid, and of course, countless guys in their speedos.
Yakima really stepped up for this event and brought some amazing course enhancements in the form of a huge windmill, which fans spun around and had athletes dodging the blades like a huge mini-golf obstacle. That alone was cool, but then one of my girls said "Dad, look! BUBBLES!"
I looked over, and sure enough, there was a ten foot high mountain of soap suds awaiting the racers. We ran over and jumped through the bubbles a couple times before the race started. And when 100+ rabid single speeders came plowing through the curtain of soap, it was priceless. Nice job, Yakima.
Today (Sunday) was the second and final day of the SSCXWC event. Yesterday's qualifier time trial was in Forest Park, as I guessed earlier. I'm a little bummed I missed this whole weekend, because truth be told, I've been riding up Salzman on my singlespeed a LOT for the past few months, just on a hunch we'd be racing there. I would have enjoyed it, but that's a no brainer, right? There's always next time.
I've posted a few pictures from the race here.

Thanks for the help on the tires also. Everything held together for the jump to hyperspace!
