BAM!

So there I was, creating some non-clustered indexes in SQL Server, when the urge to clean my bike hit me.

I took the wheels off, removed the cranks, and as I was cleaning the frame, look what I found:

crackedFrame

Yup, both chainstays are cracked, half way through.  I wonder if it would have survived Estacada?  Probably not.

So this means someone will be spending a some extra shop time tonight putting a bike together to race on Sunday.  And that someone, of course, is me.  I'm glad I have an old Redline in the garage.

What do you think?

I really could use an assistant beer drinker, Ricardo.

I am Sorry Erik.... you were so fast last sunday on the last lap... to big power ?

Bummer. That underscores the importance of cleaning and inspecting your bike after races. Since it's been so dry lately, I haven't been doing much in the way of maintenance. But while washing the bike after Barton, I discovered a couple things too. Of course not as dramatic as yours.

I've got the flu so see you at Hillsboro (I hope).

damn! you are hard on equipment. Dont' go so fast :-)

Glad you caught this before the race. Dropping your rear wheel and seizing it up can't be good for your health.

Good luck (today)!

ugh, thats a mess, do you want me to weld it up so you can at least use it as a play bike?

Maybe...we'll see if the Giant rep warranties it, first. I think they will since it's only a year old, and lightly used. You can weld aluminum? That would be fun!

They should warranty it, it is clearly a failure due to the stress created by the pinching of the tubes, if they have not seen this before they will see in the future.

Yeah, probably. Giant is very good about this kind of thing.

Things break easier with the big frames and heavier riders.
