RIP Brett Jarolimek

I just read the story at BikePortland on Brett Jarolimek's death.  I know people die every day, but this guy was doing what I do all the time - riding his bike.  He collided with a garbage truck, and it was fatal.

It's sobering to see this happen, and it really hits home.  About three years ago, Charles Christiansen had a fatal crash while racing out at PIR.  Before every race at PIR, I still go out the to pole Charles hit and say a few words of remembrance.  I've never forgotten it.

The bike racing community was really supportive of the loved ones Charles left behind, and I was proud to be part of it.  I'm sure it goes without saying the loved ones Brett has left behind will need our hopes and prayers, too.  I will certainly be giving mine.

Best wishes to Brett's family, and please ride safe out there, everyone!

Hey Eric
Remember me all the way over here in the emerald Isle of Ireland. Have to say that even though Iam a couple of thousand miles away from Portland. The 12th of July 2005 sticks with me and probably always will just like you echoed in your blog.

Hope you and your family and the rest of the BBC crew are all well and I am always keeping a watching from this side of the world wishing you all the greatest success during the year

Of course I remember you!

Hope Intel creates a new fab process so you'll be over for another extended visit.

Thanks for the note.
