Tubeless Cyclocross - switching over to Stan's notubes - Part 1

I am switching to a new tire setup for the rest of the season.

I've been reading for over a year on running Stan's notubes for cyclocross. This system is supposed to allow you to run clincher tires on a regular set of clincher wheels without an innertube.

Why would you do that? To prevent pinch flats. If those aren't an issue, you can run your tires at a much lower pressure, and get more traction and a more comfortable ride. You can do this with tubular tires, too. But tubulars are expensive. And if you get a flat with a tubeless tire, you can simply put a tube in there and ride home. With a tubular, you're walking.

My opinion thus far of notubes is mixed. I don't think I'd ever trust a "conversion" wheelset as I described above - normal clincher wheels running tubeless. They just don't seem to be reliable enough, and there's not an easy way to know if your tires will actually stay on the rim in harsh conditions.

However, Stan's recently released a 29" rim. It's the same size as a road 700c rim, and has a modified bead design that really helps keep the tire on the rim, and sealed up. This changes everything.

So I hocked some stuff on ebay and bought a pair of Stan's 355 ZTR 29er rims. When the wheels are built up, I'll report back with an update. Will they work? Will the tire stay on the rim? I'll know in a day or two.
